Where we stand

Regular support for Windows 10 ended on 14 October 2025. Microsoft offers Extended Security Updates (ESU) as a paid bridging solution; businesses can obtain them for several years, currently until October 2028. Check details, conditions and prices directly with Microsoft or your licensing partner. Without updates or ESU, risk grows with every new vulnerability.

Which routes exist

  • Move to Windows 11: the normal case. Requires compatible devices (including TPM 2.0 and a supported processor).
  • Replace devices: if hardware does not meet the requirements.
  • Use ESU: as a time-limited bridge for devices that cannot yet be migrated.
  • Consider alternative systems: for workplaces with simple requirements, for example Linux Mint.
  • Isolate: disconnect or heavily restrict special devices that cannot be updated.

Approach

  • Inventory: devices, OS version, hardware suitability, applications.
  • Check compatibility: test business applications and drivers on Windows 11.
  • Pilot: small group, gather experience.
  • Plan the rollout: in waves, with schedule and communication to employees.
  • Prepare management: Autopilot and Intune ease future changes.
  • Clarify budget and procurement early, as delivery times can vary.
